- X5 gets minor exterior tweaks and more efficient engines
While it might not look drastically different on the outside, this is in fact the revised X5, due on sale in June 2010. The major changes come under the bonnet with improved performance and lower emissions.
There will be one petrol engine on offer from launch - the improved xDrive48i now named the xDrive50i. The diesel options are the entry-level xDrive30d and the improved xDrive35d, rebadged the xDrive40d. All engines will be available in two trim levels - SE or M Sport.
The xDrive30d has been improved to give it an extra 10bhp, taking the power output to 245bhp. Emissions have dropped from 217g/km to 195g/km of CO2 and fuel economy is up to 38mpg from 34mpg. The xDrive40d engine gets an extra 20bhp with emissions dropping 22g/km to 198g/km. Fuel economy is up 3mpg to 37mpg.
On the petrol front the improvements have come mainly in performance with the xDrive50i now offering 408bhp - an increase of 53bhp. This gives it a 0-62 time of 5.5 seconds - a second quicker than the outgoing model.
All models will come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, which according to brand helps lower emissions while also offering a smoother gear change.
Exterior changes are minimal with the front getting new vents, a fresh bumper and LED lights. At the rear there are redesigned light clusters and bigger exhausts.
Standard equipment on the car has also been improved with all models getting leather interior and xenon headlights.
The X5 will go on sale in the UK in June with prices starting at £43,980 for the xDrive30d SE model and rising to £58,175 for the xDrive50i M Sport.
