First look: Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

  • Features new dual clutch automatic for quicker gear changes
  • Comes with folding glass/metal roof with fixed wind deflector
  • On sale Spring 2010 with prices starting at £21,000 (est)

Renault has added an all new Coupe Cabriolet to the Megane range.

Like the previous version it gets a full length folding metal and glass roof meaning an airy interior whether the roof is up or down.

The glass roof also makes the inside of the car warmer and quieter, and it can be opened or closed in 21 seconds.

The Coupe Cabriolet is also fitted with a fixed glass wind deflector, which should keep the wind off the driver and passenger when driving with the roof down. There is also a mesh deflector to cover the rear seats to further reduce wind turbulence.

There will be a choice six different engines with three petrol and three diesels. The entry level petrol is a 1.6-litre engine with 110bhp followed by a more efficient turbo petrol with 130bhp while the top-of-the-range choice is a 2.0-litre with 140bhp.

On the diesel front there's a 110bhp option, 130bhp version and a range topping 160bhp. All engines come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard but the 110bhp diesel can be specified with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This will be the first Renault model to use this new automatic.

In terms of handling, buyers should see an improvement compared to the outgoing model thanks to a stiffer chassis and new electric power steering system.

The Megane Coupe Cabriolet is set to go on sale in the Spring this year and is expected to be priced at around £21,000.
