Ford has introduced two new low-price Transit vans to its range in a bid to appeal to small traders.

The Leader models are both short wheelbase vehicles: the Transit Connect Leader is priced from £9,995 and the Transit Leader starts from £11,995.

The Leader is a standard 260, low roof van that uses a 2.2-litre 84bhp diesel engine while the Connect Leader is powered by a 1.8-litre 74bhp diesel unit.

Both are available in red, white or blue and buyers can specify cargo rails, and Bluetooth handsfree.

Ford is also introducing a new 14-seat minibus to its Transit range from £25,400, and has also increased the payload on its 17-seat minibus by 150kg, taking it from 4.1 tonnes to 4.25 tonnes.

From September all rear-wheel-drive Transits from 98bhp to 197bhp will come with six-speed transmission and with DAB radio as standard.
