Peugeot’s new 2008 crossover model will cost from £12,995 when deliveries begin in July.

Available to order now, the new model combines the size of a 208 supermini with a jacked up ride height and more chunky styling to create a niche model aimed at ‘lifestyle’ buyers.

Four trim levels and five engine options are available, with Grip Control standard on the majority of models. This uses the electronic control systems for the traction and stability controls and ABS brakes to optimise traction in low-grip conditions. Accessed via a dial on the dashboard, the system offers snow, sand and mud modes, as well as a default setting for on-road use.

Engine options are the 1.2 VTi and 1.6 VTi petrol units which offer 82 and 120bhp respectively along with combined fuel economy of up to 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions from 114g/km.

On the diesel front are four engine options, starting with the 1.4 HDi which offers 68bhp, 70.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 104g/km. Three variants of the 1.6 HDi engine are offered, all with start-stop engine technology, and ranging from 92 to 115bhp. CO2 emissions are as little as 98g/km while fuel economy rises to a claimed 74.3mpg on average.

Entry-level Access+ models come with LED daytime running lights, roof bars, one-touch fold rear seat, aux-in slot, cruise control, air conditioning and a refrigerated glovebox.

Active models add 16-inch alloys, colour touchscreen, DAB radio and Bluetooth telephony, while Allure versions gain automatic headlights and wipers, tinted rear glass, directional front fog lights and rear parking sensors.

The top-of-the-range Feline has 17-inch alloys, panoramic glass roof, satellite navigation and leather trim.
