On show: Leon ST and EcoMotive

Leon ST (pictured above)

We love our SEAT Leon FR 2.0TDI long termer, so the promise of the new ST model with 207-litres of extra loadspace can only be a good thing. Not only does it carry a hell of a lot more luggage, but it looks good too thanks to the same sharp lines found on the five door hatchback and slinky three-door SC.

The engine range remains the same, with a choice of diesel and petrol engines that range from the 57.6mpg 1.2 TSI petrol to the 182bhp 2.0 TDI diesel.

Leon EcoMotive

By utilising the same engine and gearbox combination as found in the uber-economical Golf Bluemotion the new Leon EcoMotive promises some serious gains in efficiency. So with this 1.6-litre diesel engine the Leon achieves over 85.6mpg combined according to the official figures and emits 87g/km – that means free annual road tax and infrequent visits to the fuel station.

Along with the frugal engine there’s a host of body modifications to make the already sleek Leon slip through the air a little easier, stop/start, low rolling resistance rubber and longer gearing for the six-speed manual gearbox. It’ll also weigh a little less than the standard car.
