New car on show: SX4

An all-new version of the SX4, Suzuki’s tall hatchback with offroader-ish looks, is on the stand at Geneva. Based on the S-Cross concept from last year’s Paris show, the SX4 is now nearing production and goes on sale from Autumn onwards.

The new SX4 is much bigger than the old model, and is now aimed at a slightly different market – that of ‘crossovers’ such as the Ford Kuga and Honda CR-V.

Highlights include a big boot (430 litres), a new four-wheel drive system and a double sliding glass roof, which Suzuki says is a world first. There’s a choice of two engines; a 1.6 petrol or a 1.6 diesel, available in either two- or four-wheel drive form. Lowest emissions of the range are for the 2WD diesel, at 115g/km.

Now that it’s grown up, it will be interesting to see how the new SX4 fares against its more established rivals.
