Welcome to the new Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV, in concept form at least. But fear not, this is no pie-in-the-sky show car, a production version looking very close to what you see here will be in Jaguar showrooms from 2018.

Strip away the motor show hype, and here's a car that promises to be a gamechanger for Jaguar. which will slot in the range above the E-Pace and below the F-Pace. It's an all-new electric crossover, much smaller than the Tesla Model X.

The styling incorporates all of the styling cues introduced with the Jaguar XE and  XF, so it retains a low and sporty look, despite having a roomy interior.

Its sportiness was reinforced at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show when Jaguar confirmed an I-Pace racing series to support the Formula E electric single-seater championships.

This clever packaging been achieved by strategic positioning of its motors and battery packs. It makes use of Jaguar Land Rover's aluminium platform expertise, and houses two electric motors for a promised range of 220 miles on a single charge.

Jaguar has yet to announce prices for the production version of the I-Pace, but our colleagues at CAR suggest that it will be officially price-listed before the end of 2017 at around£65,000.
