Hyundai unveils greener Blue i20 16 August 2011 Email this page Zoom Eco version of South Korean supermini emits just 98g/km Costs nothing to tax and is congestion charge exempt On sale now with prices starting from £13,195 Tweet After giving its i10 city car the Blue treatment earlier this year, Hyundai has done the same to its i20 model to add another car to its range of eco cars that dip below the 100g/km benchmark. The new i20 Blue model emits just 98g/km of CO2 which means buyers will pay no showroom tax, no road tax and will be exempt from paying the congestion charge. Based on the current 1.4-litre CRDi i20 89bhp Comfort model, the emission cuts of 12g/km were achieved with the addition of stop/start, low rolling resistance tyres, rear wheel air deflectors and alterations to the rear suspension. As well as the drop in emissions, fuel economy has also seen a big improvement. The standard Comfort model will achieve a claimed 67mpg while this new Blue model will, according to the manufacturer, manage 76mpg. Despite being the eco dedicated model, the i20 Blue still comes with alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, electric heated and folding door mirrors, electric front and rear windows, steering wheel audio controls, air con, remote central locking and USB and auxiliary connections for MP3 players. This is the second model in Hyundai's range to be tax and congestion charge exempt. The i10 Blue was introduced in March this year with emissions of 99g/km and economy of 67.3mpg, so despite being bigger the i20 is more fuel efficient and cleaner. The i20 Blue is on sale now with prices starting at £13,195. More like this Ten greenest large 4x4s Ten greenest small family cars Ten greenest small cars Green car buying guide Find your eco-warrior
