Audi has expanded its A1 range by adding a new 2.0-litre diesel engine, along with two new specifications.
With the new engine generating 141bhp and 320Nm of pulling power, the A1 can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 8.2s. Coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, its top speed is 135mph. More importantly, it emits just 108g/km of CO2. This means a road tax bill of just £20 per annum. Audi claims the 2.0-litre diesel A1 will also achieve 68.9mpg.
The new engine is available with the Sport and S Line trims, as well as the new Contrast and Black Edition models.
The Contrast Edition, pictured above, is available for a premium of £1,350 over the equivalent Sport model. Barring the range-topping 183bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine, buyers can pick from all the other engines in the existing range.
For the extra cash buyers get a contrasting colour for the roofline and aerodynamic body styling elements, which you don’t get on the Sport model. There are also larger 17-inch bi-colour alloys, while a double-blade roof spoiler can be added at an additional cost.
The Black Edition model, below, is based on the top S Line specification and is only available with the new 2.0-litre diesel engine or the range-topping 182bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine.
For a premium of £1,100 over the S Line specification, potential customers get a black styling treatment for the grille surround and number plate holder, rear privacy glass, 18-inch alloys and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime-running lights. Inside there is also a sound system upgrade and full electronic climate control.
The new 2.0-litre diesel Audi A1 is available to order now, with prices starting at £17,945.
