Taking centre stage at the Subaru stand was the Advanced Tourer Concept – a five-door estate with eco-friendly pretentions.
The outside appearance points to the future. It’s got a bold front end, split panoramic roof and rear-hinged rear doors. The powertrain, however, is surprisingly conventional.
Under the bonnet is a downsized 1.6-litre direct-injection, turbocharged, petrol/electric hybrid boxer engine, promising strong performance as well low CO2 emissions and impressive fuel economy.
Alongside the Tourer Concept was the BRZ coupe concept which also uses Subaru’s boxer engine. The powerplant is mounted close to the ground in order to achieve a low centre of gravity. This, Subaru says, gives the BRZ strong handling capabilities. In order to demonstrate this, the BRZ will compete in the GT300 class of the Super GT racing series.
Also on the Subaru stand was the new Impreza Sport hatchback and the Impreza G4 saloon.
