The dominant model on the German brand’s stand was the new A-Class.
It has dropped the previous model’s high-roof design for a more compact Volkswagen Golf-like design.

- What is it? New version of the entry-level Mercedes-Benz hatchback
- Vital stats and facts: The big news is that it will be offered with an engine that emits 99g/km. That makes it the first production Mercedes-Benz to emit under 100g/km – and that means it’s road tax and congestion charge exempt. There will be a choice of engines ranging from 109bhp up to 211bhp. All engines will come with stop/start, while there’s a choice of a seven-speed automatic gearbox or six-speed manual.
- Why would you buy it? You’re after a small hatchback but want something that offers a more comfortable and premium feel compared to the likes of the Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astra. You probably also have a slightly larger budget, allowing you to stretch to something beyond the average hatchback.
- Why wouldn’t you? For a bit of excitement in your hatchback life you’d probably opt for a BMW 1 Series. If you just want a sensible hatchback then you could save yourself some money and opt for a Hyundai i30 or Kia cee’d instead.
- Prices and launch date: There’s no word yet on when it will come to the UK but prices for the current A-Class starts at £16,000, so you can expect the new car to be similarly priced. See sister title Car Magazine’s take on the new A-Class here.
