Star of the Porsche stand was the all-new Boxster, while there was also a convertible version of the new 911 and a hardcore version of the Panamera known as the GTS.

Parkers Pick – Boxster

  • What is it? An all-new model of the firm’s entry level convertible sports car.
  • Vital stats and facts: The 2.7-litre petrol engine develops 265bhp in the normal Boxster, while the 3.4-litre engine in the S outputs 315bhp. It has a completely new body, which is designed to look more aggressive. Underneath there is a revamped chassis with a longer wheel-base, a wider track, larger wheels and new electro-mechanical power steering. Thanks to efficiency improvements it’s claimed to be 15% more economical with an average of 35mpg across the two-model range. The Boxster and Boxster S are powered by flat-six engines with direct petrol injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and auto start/stop function. The 2.7-litre entry level model’s new power unit delivers 261bhp, which is up 8bhp. The 3.4-litre engine on the S delivers 310bhp – 4bhp more than before. For a full run-down of the new Porsche Boxster, take a look at sister website Car Magazine’s story.
  • Why would you buy it? The last Boxster was one of the best-handling cars around and this one promises to be even better.
  • Why wouldn’t you? It isn’t exactly what you’d call ‘cheap’ – either to buy or to run.
  • Prices and launch date: Will go on sale on May 5, priced at £37,589 for the normal Boxster or £45,384 for the S model.

What else is on the stand?

The Panamera GTS was on the stand, which churns out 430bhp from its 4.8-litre engine. That means 60mph is possible from standstill in 4.5 seconds, while its top speed is 179mph. Handling has been improved too, partly thanks to a 10mm lower ride height. The GTS will go on sale at £90,409.

There was also a convertible version of the firm’s new 911 which is set to go on sale for £79,947.
