The Subaru stand at Geneva had a pair of important cars.
The production-ready BRZ broke cover for the first time, and the firm also showed an all-new Impreza.
Parkers Pick – BRZ
- What is it? The BRZ is a lightweight rear-wheel-drive coupe developed in conjunction with Toyota, which will also release a version of the car dubbed the GT 86. It uses Subaru’s four-cylinder ‘Boxer’ petrol engine, which due to its configuration can be mounted very low. This means that the handling should be superb.
- Vital stats and facts: 200bhp is available from the 2.0-litre petrol engine, while the car weighs just 1,220kg. It will go from 0-62mph in seven seconds and has a top speed of 143mph. For more information on the Subaru BRZ, click here for sister title Car Magazine’s story.
- Why would you buy it? It’s bound to be a great drive and will sound good too thanks to the distinctive Boxer engine note. Also more exclusive than the Toyota offering and will appeal to enthusiasts thanks to its rear-wheel-drive configuration.
- Why wouldn’t you? It won’t be as efficient as coupes such as the Scirocco or the Astra GTC as there’s no diesel engine available.

What else is on the stand?
Subaru also unveiled an all-new Impreza. The fourth generation hatchback also has the firm’s famous Boxer engine, along with a four-wheel-drive system for extra traction.
