On show: Infiniti Q30 concept
Japanese manufacturer Infiniti, the luxury arm of Nissan, is displaying the concept version of a new model called the Q30 which aims to straddle both the hatchback and crossover market.
The production version will compete with premium hatchbacks such as the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series as well as aiming to steal sales from small 4×4 ‘crossovers’ such as the Audi Q3.
As part of a tie-up with Mercedes, the production car is likely to borrow the underpinnings from the Mercedes A-Class hatchback.
Infiniti says the Q30 is aimed at younger customers than its present line-up and that its styling is intended to be a blend of coupe, hatchback and crossover. It will be interesting to see how its design cues, which mix the big wheels of an off-roader with the sloping roofline of a coupe, will translate into production.
The Q30 will be built in the UK at Nissan’s Sunderland factory from 2015.
In addition to unveiling the Q30 Concept, Infiniti bosses also announced the start of sales for the all-new Infiniti Q50 which will go on sale in the UK in mid-November.
