Nissan is extending its own scrappage scheme so buyers with a seven-year-old car can get a £2,000 discount when they trade in their old vehicles.
The Japanese car maker's British Built Trade-in Scheme guarantees the discount against any new British-built Nissan for trade-in vehicles over seven years old. Previously the offer only applied to models aged 8 to 10 years old.
New Nissans eligible for the improved offer, which will start on April 1 and run until June 30 2010, include the Micra, Note, Qashqai or Qashqai+2, all of which are produced at Nissan's Sunderland Plant.
Nissan sold 15,840 vehicles under the government scrappage scheme - 81% of which were built in Sunderland - and 10,944 vehicles were sold on Nissan's British-built trade-in scheme which ran alongside the government scheme for cars 8 to 10 years old
Cars eligible for trade-in must be registered on or before August 31 2003, have a current MOT and must have been owned by their present keeper for a minimum of 12 months.
All Nissan British-Built Trade-in Scheme savings are based on the manufacturer's list prices.
