Renault recalls 66,000 cars

  • Scenic II models recalled due to faulty handbrake
  • Electronic brake could apply itself when car is moving
  • Cars made from September 2003 to June 2005 affected

Renault has been forced to recall more than 66,000 Scenic II models because the electronic handbrake could apply itself while the car is moving.

The problem affects a total of 66,735 models in the UK that were built between September 2003 and June 2005.

This problem was discovered by owners outside of the UK but there have been no incidents in the UK.

The French car maker has set about contacting all the owners of these cars. Owners can contact their nearest Renault dealer where the electronic parking brake will be reprogrammed free of charge. This fix should take around an hour.

Around 14,000 owners have already had their car fixed but a second recall letter has been sent out to give people another reminder.

Anyone worried about their Scenic can contact Renault customer services on 0800 072 33 72

This is the latest in a number of recall incidents. Earlier in the year Toyota was forced to recall seven different models because of potentially faulty accelerator pedals as well as around 8,000 Prius models because of issues with the brake pedal.

Lexus, Kia, Honda, Peugeot and Citroen have all issued recalls this year while more recently Toyota has had to recall more cars, this time for the Land Cruiser Amazon because of steering-related problems.
