Family cars pick up five star safety ratings

26 August 2009
  • Latest results in Euro NCAP safety tests
  • Four stars for the all-new Citroen C3
  • Selection of all-new cars get the top marks

The latest batch of new cars have been put to the Euro NCAP crash test - and the majority have passed with flying colours.

Seven out of the eight cars tested, including the new Skoda Yeti and Renault Grand Scenic, received the maximum marks for safety with five stars.

Among the cars with the top marks of five stars for safety are the two main hybrid models - the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.

The all-new Citroen C3 - set to be launched in early 2010 - was the only car in the latest round of testing not to receive five stars, instead receiving four stars for safety.

The main reason for the C3 not getting the full marks, according to Euro NCAP, is that although ESC (electronic stability control), which helps to control the car in slippery conditions, will be available on some models it is not expected to be fitted as standard on the car.

The other cars to receive the full five stars include the latest version of the Kia Sorento and Subaru Legacy as well as the new Volkswagen Polo.
