New Subaru WRX STI hits the road 07 October 2010 Email this page Zoom New four-door saloon joins five-door hatch 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds, top speed of 158mph On sale in October for £32,995 (four-door) Tweet Subaru has revealed the new four-door saloon version of the WRX STI. The new 2011 WRX STI saloon will sell alongside the existing five-door hatch. Subaru claims it benefits from a stiffer bodyshell, extensively reworked suspension, a lower ride height and wider tires to deliver a more direct and accurate drive, with greater driver feedback. The manufacturer also claims that despite the lower ride height, suspension travel has been increased and the alloy wheels have been lightened to maintain the car's road holding ability and ride quality. It comes with new bumpers and bigger rear flared wheel arches and inside there are all-new front RECARO bucket seats. Interior quality has also been improved thanks to new materials according to Subaru. The saloon comes with the classic 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine producing 296bhp and delivering 407Nm of pulling power, while meeting Euro 5 emission standards. The saloon can manage the 0-62mph sprint in 5.2 seconds and uses Subaru's trademark all-wheel drive system. The car incorporates a series of stability, power delivery and traction control systems that allow the driver to modify the level of intervention the systems apply, in order to suit their driving style or the conditions. Standard equipment includes keyless entry, push-button start, front log lamps, hill start assist, climate control, front and rear electric windows, an all-new radio-CD unit with ten speakers, AUX and USB input jacks for iPod connectivity, Bluetooth and cruise control. Currently only a small range of colours and options are available for UK buyers though a comprehensive range of options, such as a rear spoiler and the classic WR blue colour, are expected to be offered. The WRX STI saloon and five-door hatchback both start from £32,995. They are available to order now.
