New special edition Golf announced 11 May 2011 Email this page Zoom Edition 35 celebrates 35 years of GTI Golfs Latest version gets more power and kit On sale later in 2011, prices and spec to follow Tweet Volkswagen has announced a new special edition Golf GTI called the Edition 35. Launched to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the original Golf GTI, the new car gets an extra 25bhp over the standard GTI, bringing peak power up to 232bhp. This isn't the first time a GTI has been launched to celebrate the birthday of the hot hatch. Back in 2002 VW released the 25th ‘Anniversary' edition of the fourth generation Golf, and in 2006 it launched the Edition 30 to celebrate - you've guessed it - the GTI's 30th anniversary. As well as the 25 extra BHP, the Edition 35 gets some styling tweaks to set it apart from your run-of-the-mill GTI. A new front bumper and 18-inch wheels change the exterior profile, while a ‘golf ball' gear knob from the Edition 30 makes a come-back too. The ‘35' motif appears at various places over the car. The new car will make its public debut at the enthusiast's GTI event in Wörthersee in Austria in June this year. It'll go on sale later on this year, with pricing and full specification to be revealed nearer the sale date.
