Audi A2 (00-05) - Review Review by David Ross on 16 Jul 2008 Last Updated: 17 Jul 2009 4 The A2 was a car ahead of its time. Launched in 2000, it was revolutionary in that it used a body made entirely of weight-saving aluminium, which - along with a range of small and efficient engines - made it extremely economical with low CO2 figures. The cheapest versions are the 1.4-litre petrols which are fine for town driving. Whichever engine you go for, aim for an SE or above as the standard model doesn't come with air conditioning. Be aware though that in 2002 climate control was (strangely) made an optional extra on all cars. Avoid any without as they'll be harder to sell and less comfortable, especially in the summer. The Colour Storm versions or Sport models are the ones to go for if you want to stand out. If you're after a 1.4 TDI find out whether it's the slower 75bhp or the later 90bhp, introduced in early 2004. You'll need to look hard to find an A2 and when you do, it'll probably be at an Audi main dealer complete with a premium price. It's worth making an offer as the chances are they'll be glad to sell. The TDI models are the most sought after while the special edition Colour Storm versions are popular too. Priced right, any A2 will sell quickly.
