The A2 was a car ahead of its time. Launched in 2000, it was revolutionary in that it used a body made entirely of weight-saving aluminium, which - along with a range of small and efficient engines - made it extremely economical with low CO2 figures.

Running costs

The A2 is a cheap car to own thanks to good fuel economy and low emissions, while insurance is reasonable too. Servicing can be pricey if you go to an Audi dealership, but with potential 19,000-mile intervals on petrol engines and a variable schedule on the diesels (up to 30,000 miles) you won't need to be a regular visitor to your local garage. Body damage can be expensive to fix though due to the aluminium panels.
