Not as exhilarating to drive as the BMW 335i

The S4 is the pinnacle of Audi’s excellent A4 range, bursting with 333bhp and rocketing to 62mph in around five seconds. Available as a saloon or an estate, it’s up against alternatives like the BMW 335i, Mercedes-Benz C350 and Volkswagen Passat R36 in the premium performance stakes. As an all-rounder it’s the best and boasts levels of roominess, interior luxury and pace that the others cannot compete with. But it doesn’t quite beat the 335i for sheer exhilaration because it can feel a little too cosy and relaxed to really set the pulse racing.
