4.5 out of 5

Audi’s convertible version of its supercar is a real head turner. Whether you are crawling along the high street or shooting along a country road, people can not help but turn and stare. Given the size of wallet required to buy the car, the R8 Spyder is more likely to be found cruising the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes or hurtling up into the foothills above Monaco. The R8 Spyder is powered by 4.2-litre V8 or a 5.0-litre V10. Early models deliver supercar performance, hitting 62mph in just 4.1 seconds and can charge onto a top speed of 194mph. Post-2012 models with the V10 engine get there in 3.8 seconds. That’s seriously impressive but not as impressive as the way the engine builds power through the rev range enabling effortless acceleration for easy overtaking. For the hardcore poseur the roof can be opened or closed in 19 seconds while still driving up to speeds of 31mph.
