Audi TT Coupé (06 on) - Review

Review by Simon Harris on
Last Updated: 27 October 2010
Audi's second generation TT is clearly related to its predecessor - but thanks to sleeker lines the coupe has a more aggressive and sporty appearance than before. If any criticism could have been levelled at the original TT, it would have been a lack of interior space and the fact that it was a less rewarding drive than some rivals. Audi has taken both of these factors on board to create a larger but lighter TT Coupe with improved handling and more space inside. The TT should, once again, be top of wish lists for people who want a stylish sports coupe and there's a good choice of engines available including an economical TDI which is capable of 53mpg.

2.0T models come with 17-inch alloy wheels, aluminium interior trim details, MP3 compatible CD/radio, trip computer, electric windows, electronic climate control, sports seats, with part-leather upholstery, retractable rear spoiler and split folding rear seats. The V6 model gets 18-inch alloys, full leather trim, heated front seats and an enhanced braking system. Options include satellite navigation, xenon headlamps with an adaptive light function, tyre pressure monitor, short-shift gearchange and a multi-function steering wheel. To enhance the drive, the Sport button was added in May 2010 across the range as an option. When in use the Sport button improves the throttle response, the steering fells sharper and weightier and the engine note sounds more sporty. TTS models benefit from a distinctive design of bi-xenon headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, 'S' branding inside and - a first for the TT - four tailpipes at the rear. Standard specification for the TDI (only available as a quattro model) mirrors the 2.0 TFSI. In May 2010, Audi simplified the trim levels on the TT. The 'standard' trim is the entry level model - the TT Roadster 1.8-litre TFSI - although you can upgrade to Sport or S line specification for an additional cost. All other Coupe versions (excluding the TTS and TT RS) start at Sport and can be upgraded to S line.
