BMW 1-Series Convertible (08 on) - Review Review by Dan Harrison on 03 April 2008 Last Updated: 23 February 2009 If you're after a stylish and small convertible, BMW's 1-Series Convertible fits the bill perfectly. You get all the build quality and sophistication you expect from the German make, but in a neat soft-top package. Unlike many convertibles, including the 3-Series, this model sticks with a fabric hood which takes up less boot space when it's folded down. It may not be as quiet or secure as a metal-folding roof, but this 1-Series is still a great all-rounder. Good to drive, refined and classy - an added bonus for owners is that it even ticks a few boxes when it comes to being green and cost effective to run. 4.5 out of 5 Other BMW reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Equipment There are three trim levels - ES, SE and M Sport. The entry-level ES model comes well equipped (although it should do given the price tag) with 16-inch alloy wheels, stability control, run flat tyres, manual air conditioning, electric windows, a CD stereo with an auxiliary input and an electrically operated roof. The SE adds key equipment such as a multifunction steering wheel, climate control, heated mirrors, rear parking sensors and front fog lights. The M Sport adds 18-inch alloys, sports suspension, sports seats and an M Sport body kit. Opt for leather upholstery and it will be fitted with sun reflective material as standard - perfect on a summer's day. The seats reflect the sun's rays and is to make them 20 degrees cooler than that of standard leather seats on a hot day - so the seats don't scorch when you sit back in the car after leaving it open in the sun. In 2009 a Sport trim was added to the line-up. Available on all four-cylinder models the specification includes 17-inch alloy wheels, front foglights, heated mirrors, sport multi-function leather steering wheel and sports seats.
