The BMW X6 aims to combine the high driving position of a 4x4, the sporty design of a coupe and the performance of a sports car. It's certainly less bulky than the X5 it's based on, but still has plenty of road presence while the distinctively sculpted body stands out from every angle.

Buying new

Most buyers should be happy with either of the diesels – both offer strong performance and decent fuel economy, but as with any BMW model, getting a discount is extremely difficult, especially on such a niche product as the X6.

Parkers price projector

The Parkers price projector shows you how much your car is likely to be worth after three years and 60,000 miles if you're selling to a dealer. The graph shows how steep the depreciation is for the entire range (the top line shows the more expensive models in the range; the other shows the cheaper).

Parkers price projector is based on decades of market expertise and analysis to current trends.

Buying used

This is not going to be a big seller so the vast majority of used cars will be found within the BMW dealer network. The diesels will hold on to their value best, look for full dealer service history and go for cars fitted with leather seats - it's only standard on the 50i.

Selling

Evidence suggests that the X6 is proving to be a sought after car and combined with limited numbers there should be plenty of keen buyers around. Diesel power and key options such as leather seats and sat nav will help ensure a quicker sale.
