Cadillac BLS Wagon (08 on) - Review

Review by Simon Harris on
Last Updated: 05 November 2008
Cadillac relied on Saab engineering to produce its smallest model, the BLS. Based on the Saab 9-3 Sportwagon (and built in the same plant) the BLS Wagon arrived a couple of years after its saloon counterpart and is Cadillac's first ever estate car. At the time of the Wagon's launch, Cadillac's presence in the UK had reduced to just five dealers with three additional approved repairers, so brand and product awareness is a major challenge. However, the BLS Wagon is a competent car, if a little short on carrying capacity compared with some rivals.

Safety

Although the BLS Wagon hasn't undergone any official independent crash tests, the Saab 9-3 on which it is based scored very well, so we have no doubt as to its ability to protect occupants in a crash. It comes with all the features you'd expect in this sort of car, such as six airbags, active headrests to lessen the risk of whiplash injuries for front passengers plus seatbelt pre-tensioners that tighten in the event of an accident.

Reliability

The Saab 9-3 which the BLS Wagon is based on has proved a reliable car on the whole with only a few minor problems on early cars. All the engines in the line-up have been well-proven in other GM cars.
