Cadillac SRX (07-08) - Review Review by Dan Harrison on 27 March 2007 The SRX is a large 4x4 vehicle that's designed to be comfortable and easy to drive on-road, rather than a hardcore off roader. Its main strengths are that it comes with seven seats as standard (although the extra row doesn't offer that much room), comes well equipped and is distinctively styled. It was designed and is built in the US but unfortunately falls short of the interior refinement and driving sophistication that you'd expect in a car with this price tag. It's a rare site in UK roads, due in part to its sheer size, making it a good choice if you want to stand out, but there are far better alternatives available for similar money. 3 out of 5 Other Cadillac reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Gallery 3 out of 5 Performance Only two engines are available in the SRX - and both are thirsty petrols. The smaller unit is a 3.6-litre V6 with 261bhp and a 0-62mph time of 8.1 seconds, however it feels slower than the figures suggest and is noisy when pushed hard. Even worse is that it is only capable of an appalling 21mpg. It's certainly not quick when it comes to overtaking either - it's heavy and the gearbox is slow to react to, even with the accelerator flat to the floor. The other engine choice is a 4.6-litre V8 which has 325bhp, which gets from 0 to 62mph in 7.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 140mph. All cars have a semi-automatic gearbox - five speed for the V6 and six speed for the V8, but both units are sluggish to respond. Make no mistake, it’s far from car-like, but it is not the large unwieldy beast you expect, instead it actually has quite a firm suspension set-up and body control is fairly good. It doesn’t wallow too much in bends and the steering has decent feel while the ride quality is very good - soaking up bumps and potholes, making it a relaxing motorway cruiser.
