Chevrolet Lacetti Station Wagon (05-11) - Review

Review by David Ross on
The Lacetti was formerly badged as a Daewoo, although the Station Wagon version was never previously available. It actually makes more sense as a family work horse vehicle in estate guise. The driving experience is comfortable, the interior is durable and it has a decent load space. However it is dull to drive, not helped by the lifeless steering and the lack of a diesel engine in the line-up means it's not a god choice if you intend on covering large mileages. As a new buy it's not particularly cheap either.

Comfort

For this money you'd might otherwise be looking at something smaller, so in that respect it is fairly spacious. However it would struggle in comparison to other cars of a similar size, like a Ford Focus estate. Generally there will be little cause for complaint although rear legroom is a little tight. The seats are quite soft and could do with more support for longer journeys but are fine for a couple of hours.

Practicality

Thanks to a decent sized estate boot, the Lacetti Station Wagon is a practical family car with 400 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place. However this is some way behind the size of the likes of the Ford Focus estate. Folding down the rear seats increases this to 1,410 litres and also allows you to carry longer items. A vertical luggage net, cover and boot floor net are all standard, as are roof rails and a chilled glove box.

Behind the wheel

The interior is comfortable but the layout is dull, the plastics feel cheap and the wood trim (available on some models) looks naff. The air conditioning controls are easy to use, although they are placed low down and the aftermarket-style stereo is fiddly to use. Overall it feels dated and as though it was built on a budget. Visibility is fine from the driver's seat though and the driving position isn't bad either.
