Chrysler 300C Saloon (05-10) - Review

With its attention-grabbing looks, high waistline, bold egg box-shaped front grille and chrome trim, there's no mistaking the Chrysler 300C. If you're after something different from the usual German saloons the big Chrysler is an ideal choice and comes with plenty of road presence as standard. Exceptionally well-equipped, spacious and comfortable, the 300C undercuts its rivals by several thousand pounds. There's also the option of a great 3.0-litre V6 diesel that's fairly economical, although the 3.5-litre V6 and 5.7-litre V8 petrols are very thirsty. In early 2008 the model was facelifted with very minor changes to the outside plus a more upmarket feel to the cabin.

Buying used

The cheapest cars are early petrol V6s models, although you may find a few high mileage 5.7-litre models too. But if you want to keep running costs down you need to go for the CRD model - and these carry a premium over the petrols. But if you're after a distinctive and different saloon, the 300C can be a good value used buy. and it will be the cheapest engine to buy - as dealers will be registering these as demonstrators. Few will be registered by private buyers, as it costs the same as the diesel, but isn't as quick and offers poorer fuel economy. The diesel will be the most expensive to pick up; the 5.7-litre Hemi will be slightly more expensive than the petrol V6.

Selling

Diesel buyers will have an easier time selling on their car than buyers of the petrol models, although there's a strong - if niche - market for the gas-guzzling 5.7-litre V8 HEMI.
