Chrysler Grand Voyager (08 on) - Review

When it comes to large and comfortable people carriers, Chrysler has always been adept at producing good value cars. Unfortunately quality and refinement haven't been up to scratch and worse still, the 2001 model suffered from a shocking Euro NCAP safety record. The 2008 model is a far superior offering that feels solidly built but is still well equipped and hugely versatile thanks to the ingenious Stow 'n Go seating system that allows you to fold all the chairs flat. However it's not a nimble on-road companion, and the diesel engine can't compete with rivals for economy or smoothness.

Buying new

The Grand Voyager is a huge leap forward on quality compared to the previous model, but don't be afraid to ask for a discount as it is still expensive. Unlike the older model there's no standard Voyager - just the Grand model. We wouldn't really advise choosing the optional Swivel 'n Go seats as they have to be removed if you want a flat load floor - they don't fold away like the standard chairs.

Buying used

All versions of the Grand Voyager are well equipped but the LX is the best model to go for as it comes with key extra equipment such as an electrically adjustable driver's seat and cruise control. There are only a handful of the petrol engined cars around, but there's little point in choosing one over a diesel. Watch out for high-mileage ex-taxis.

Selling

The Grand Voyager should be a very easy car to sell, unless you're one of the very few people who have opted for a petrol model. Even the entry-level LX model comes well equipped and the Stow 'n Go system makes a strong selling point - no other people carrier is as versatile and practical.
