Chrysler Grand Voyager (08 on) - Review

Review by Simon Harris on
Last Updated: 01 December 2009
When it comes to large and comfortable people carriers, Chrysler has always been adept at producing good value cars. Unfortunately quality and refinement haven't been up to scratch and worse still, the 2001 model suffered from a shocking Euro NCAP safety record. The 2008 model is a far superior offering that feels solidly built but is still well equipped and hugely versatile thanks to the ingenious Stow 'n Go seating system that allows you to fold all the chairs flat. However it's not a nimble on-road companion, and the diesel engine can't compete with rivals for economy or smoothness.

Safety

The previous Grand Voyager performed poorly in official European crash tests, scoring a woeful two stars for adult occupant safety and none for pedestrian protection. Chrysler insists this car will fare much better, and points to other products within Chrysler Group - the Dodge Caliber and the 2001 Jeep Cherokee - that have scored a decent four-out-of-five stars for occupant protection. Front, side and curtain airbags are fitted as standard. Chrysler claims much of the extra length in this Grand Voyager over the previous car has gone into the front 'crumple zone' - an area designed to deform in a crash an absorb much of the impact. Electronic stability control, which can help the driver regain control during a skid, is also standard. The Grand Voyager also has Isofix child seat mounting points for three child seats.

Reliability

The Grand Voyager should be pretty good if the previous version of the car is anything to go by. Some owners encountered niggling problems, but most should enjoy ownership without serious faults.
