Not really clever enough to compete with rivals like the Renault Espace, Citroën C8, Peugeot 807 and the 2006 Ford Galaxy on ability, but prices are lower, and there are some generous discounts on new models. As more people prefer the longer and more practical Grand Voyager, the Voyager range has been simplified, with the V6 petrol dropped, and a choice of SE or LX 2.4 models, a 2.5 CRD manual diesel or if you want an automatic, it's the 2.8 CRD diesel.

Running costs

If you're choosing a diesel, you should achieve comfortably in excess of 30mpg in everyday driving. Petrol models require servicing every 7500 miles, which is a little too frequent for our liking. Rivals would manage a minimum of 9000 miles between services. Depreciation is steady on the diesels, steep on the petrols.

Voyager is quite a polluting model. With an average of 227 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are a little high for a people carrier. However, it's worth noting that the line up has a high number of diesel models, bringing the average down and giving buyers more choices of low-emission versions. Diesels typically produce less CO2 than petrol engines with similar power outputs. The range is not very frugal, averaging 31 mpg.
