Spacious, practical and brimming with family-friendly features, the Berlingo Multispace is a five-seat people carrier for buyers on a budget. It sits between the cheaper Xsara Picasso and stylish C4 Picasso in the Citroen range but, unlike its predecessor, is no longer based on a van. Instead it uses car underpinnings is comfortable and surprisingly good to drive as a result. Citroën has included even more clever and practical features but although it is more sophisticated than before, some no-frills evidence creeps through in the lower specification models which only have basic safety features.

Buying new

Citroën says it no longer offers 'cashback' deals on its newest models, but it should be possible to negotiate some kind of discount on the list price or by adding some of the option packs available. If you're going for a VT or VTR model bear in mind that air conditioning isn't standard

Buying used

The 90bhp or 110bhp diesels have the strongest appeal as used buys, and also look for those that have the useful overhead storage compartments fitted.

Selling

Any Berlingo Multispace should sell easily but the hardest to shift will probably be the 75bhp diesel version. It's sluggish and no more economical than either the 90bhp or 110bhp engines.
