Citroën Berlingo (98-09) - Review

We think that the Berlingo shares more DNA with the old 2CV than the C3 and C3 Pluriel. Like the classic Citroën, Berlingo has loads of space, a high roofline and is thoroughly practical. It's based on a van, which brings its advantages, such as low purchase prices and running costs. The optional full-length sunroof makes it feel like a convertible.

Comfort

On the motorway, loud engines and wind noise intrude. Air-conditioning is a must in summer (because of the large glass windows) but it's a £600 option.

Practicality

Interior is basic, but has plenty of head and legroom for four, or five at a push. Plenty of luggage space and you get van practicality when the rear seats are folded flat. For added practicality, go for one of the Flexispace options, with roof-shelves and extra cubby holes.

Behind the wheel

Driving position is poor and shows Berlingo's van roots - it's too upright and quickly becomes uncomfortable. But the dash is intuitively laid out and easy to use.
