Citroën C2 GT (03-04) - Review

Review by David Ross on
The GT is a limited edition version of the C2 that's designed to be a back-to-basics fun to drive model. It's powered by a 1.6-litre engine - this only delivers 110bhp, giving the GT a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds - but it's still an enjoyable unit to exploit. Unfortunately the slack manual gearbox takes the edge off the sporty feel, but it's at least an alternative to the semi-automatic gearbox that features in the VTR. The steering also lacks feel, but that doesn't prevent the C2 GT from handling well with plenty of grip and minimal body roll.

Buying used

The GT was only available in the UK (such is our affinity for hot hatches!) and only 2,250 were sold in total. Like the Saxo, the higher performance versions of the C2 have a keen following, and there are plenty of owners clubs around which are a good place to source a well-cared for example. There are quite a few modified examples around but unless these upgrades have been carried out by a reputable firm, they are best avoided.

Selling

The fact that the GT is a limited edition model will always work in your favour, even if the later VTS was faster and better equipped.
