Corvette C6 Coupé (05 on) - Review

The Corvette is a rare sight in the UK, but it offers a lot of car for the money. It costs less than a BMW M3, but the Corvette has real supercar pace and presence. The latest C6 model that arrived in 2004 also handles as well as most of its European opposition and offers decent practicality too, although the fact it's left-hand drive only hampers it in the UK. The Z06 was launched at the start of 2006 and ups the ante further with a 7.0-litre V8 engine pumping out 505bhp to put the Corvette right up there with the very quickest cars.

Buying new

The Corvette's iconic status has some appeal, and it is well-priced when you compare it against European rivals with similar performance. However, the Corvette is left-hand drive only and there are only a handful of official dealers in the UK. This can be an issue, not only when buying, but when it comes to servicing too.

Buying used

More accessible than when new, the Corvette is a good alternative choice to the obvious high performance sports cars from Porsche or BMW. Be aware though that many Corvettes will have come to the UK through US import specialists and will not be covered by the same warranty conditions as official UK cars.

Selling

Low volume helps make the Corvette an attractive buy for the handful of enthusiasts on the UK that would be interested. It may not sell quickly though - the best place to advertise will be owners clubs or specialist high performance car magazines.
