Corvette C6 Coupé (05 on) - Review Review by Simon Harris on 04 January 2008 Last Updated: 01 December 2009 The Corvette is a rare sight in the UK, but it offers a lot of car for the money. It costs less than a BMW M3, but the Corvette has real supercar pace and presence. The latest C6 model that arrived in 2004 also handles as well as most of its European opposition and offers decent practicality too, although the fact it's left-hand drive only hampers it in the UK. The Z06 was launched at the start of 2006 and ups the ante further with a 7.0-litre V8 engine pumping out 505bhp to put the Corvette right up there with the very quickest cars. 3 out of 5 Other Corvette reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Gallery 3 out of 5 Comfort The Corvette is a big car, so in theory there should be plenty of interior space. Unfortunately this isn't the case and head, leg and shoulder room are all tighter than you may expect. The seats are generously padded, while the climate control is quick to cool or warm the cabin very effectively whatever the outside temperature. The C6 and Z06 are both pleasingly refined at all speeds on UK roads, with road noise suppressed, unless you give the throttle a hefty stab to make the big V8 motor growl. The interior got an upgrade in 2008 and although it's still poorly packaged and slightly cramped, the dash area is now leather-wrapped (with a choice of two colours) and some chrome has been added around the dials and switches. Below it lies a sizeable boot that can take a set of golf clubs with room to spare, while in the cabin there are plenty of places to store loose items. The big negative for the Corvette is its width, which makes it a pain to thread through narrow city streets or car parks designed with small European cars in mind, while being left-hand drive only compounds this. An electrically adjusted drivers seat helps find the ideal driving position for most people, though some may find the steering wheel doesn’t have the range of movement necessary to get perfectly comfortable. The driver has good all-round vision in the Corvette thanks to the large glass rear hatch, through reversing can be tricky as it’s hard to judge where the rear of the car is from the driver’s seat. This is why most owners opt for rear parking sensors. Cabin quality is good, but some of the plastics look cheap next to the best Europe has to offer.
