Corvette C6 Coupé (05 on) - Review

The Corvette is a rare sight in the UK, but it offers a lot of car for the money. It costs less than a BMW M3, but the Corvette has real supercar pace and presence. The latest C6 model that arrived in 2004 also handles as well as most of its European opposition and offers decent practicality too, although the fact it's left-hand drive only hampers it in the UK. The Z06 was launched at the start of 2006 and ups the ante further with a 7.0-litre V8 engine pumping out 505bhp to put the Corvette right up there with the very quickest cars.

Safety

The Corvette offers its owners a taste of jet-fighter technology with its head-up display to show speed and revs. It may seem like a gimmick, but this system keeps the driver’s eyes on the road for more of the time. Corvette also provides the more expected safety features of twin front and side airbags and a full ESP traction control system.

Reliability

The big V8 engines may produce plenty of power, but they’re under-stressed and proven designs that won’t give trouble if regularly serviced. It’s the same for the gearboxes, suspension and the rest of the car. The interior plastics are also durable, but it’s a shame that Corvette has not made them look more attractive and better finished.
