Daewoo Kalos (03-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Daewoo's supermini is budget transport with all mod cons. It goes head-to-head with Hyundai's Getz and the Nissan Micra in the Value for money stakes. Kalos is attractively packaged, generously equipped and comes with free servicing for three years. The interior lacks the style of its rivals and the drive is lacklustre, but Kalos is hard to overlook if you're looking to make your pound go further.

Running costs

Insurance groups are low (except for the Blue), depreciation average and of course, you don't need to worry about servicing, breakdown cover or a warranty for three years. Fuel economy isn't as good as rivals.

Emissions summary

Kalos is an environmentally friendly choice for green buyers. With an average of 168 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are quite low for a super mini hatchback. It's worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 1.2-litre petrol, which is one of the greenest models in the range. The range is also fairly economical, averaging 40 mpg.
