Daihatsu Charade Hatchback (03-07) - Review

Review by Parkers on
This Fiesta-sized package is one Japanese supermini that not only looks modern, but feels it. The cheap price gets buyers into the showrooms, but it's the quality interior finish, substantial standard equipment and comfy ride that gets their signature on the order form.

Running costs

It's insurance Group 3 and will average around 55mpg (more, if driven sensibly). Residuals look good for now, but service intervals are very short at 6000 miles. Most won't do too many miles, but it would be easy to miss a service without realising.

Emissions summary

Charade scores remarkably well on the eco front. With an average of 127 g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are comparably low for a mini hatchback. It's worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 1.0-litre petrol, which is one of the greenest models in the range. The range is very frugal, averaging 53 mpg.
