Fiat Grande Punto (06-10) - Review

Review by Simon Harris on

It's fair to say Fiat has a good reputation for style and driver appeal but an unfavourable one for reliability and build quality. That's fast changing however and the Grande Punto is a perfect example. Neatly styled, good to drive and solidly constructed it's a much better long term prospect than Fiat's of old and comes with a good choice of engines including the excellent MultiJet diesels. The inside is neat and well laid out but does lack the quality feel of some rivals while the slack gearchange also lets it down. However it's great value for money and typically around £1400 less than rivals like the Renault Clio or Toyota Yaris.

Buying used

It may not be as common as the Clio or Corsa, but the Grande Punto represents a better used buy as you're likely to get a better specified car for the same money. The 1.4-litre is the most common but be sure you know which version you're buying - the 8v versions have 77bhp while 16v models boast 95bhp and are noticeably quicker.

Selling

With attractive styling and good equipment levels the Grande Punto's most obvious attributes, there shouldn't be a problem in creating interest in it. Then you can explain the extra depth of the car - top-notch safety on mid-range models, excellent diesels, nice interior touches . . . the list goes on.
