Fiat Sedici (06-11) - Review

It may be called the Sedici (Italian for 16 - in reference to its 4x4 system), but this small Fiat isn't a hardcore all terrain car. True, most models come with four-wheel drive as standard, but it is designed to primarily be a small and practical family car with some off-road ability - ideal for tackling muddy inclines and dusty gravel paths. It's actually a joint project with Suzuki (which builds the virtually identical Sedici in the same factory) and is well put together with a comfortable and neat cabin. It isn't the most striking car to look at, but its small size makes it easy to drive and the 1.9-litre MultiJet diesel offers good economy.

Safety

Its Suzuki counterpart, the SX4, scored four stars out of five for occupant protection in crash tests under the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), with three out of five for child protection. Front and side airbags are standard for the two front seats, with optional full-length curtain airbags. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated to allow a rear-facing baby seat to be carried in the front, and the rear seats have Isofix child seat mounting points. An electronic stability control system is optional on Eleganza models.

Reliability

The petrol engine comes from Suzuki, a manufacturer with a good reliability record, while Fiat has been making common-rail turbodiesel engines longer than any other manufacturer.
