Ford Cougar (98-02) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Front-wheel-drive Cougar is built on the underpinnings of the excellent Mondeo which ensures it is good to drive and compared to many coupes, has a reasonably generous amount of space. It's great value on the used market, even if its looks aren't as impressive as they once were but we'd have to point out that the Mondeo V6 has the same chassis and engine, even more practicality and is even cheaper to buy.

Comfort

Being based upon the Mondeo, there is a fair bit of space within the Cougar. Rear bucket seats are a bit restrictive and taller passengers might find it wanting for headroom but even adults will find enough leg room. Front seats are also designed to be supportive which can be uncomfortable for some people.

Practicality

More practical than most coupés, with a generous boot and rear seat backs that can be folded down to increase carrying capacity.

Behind the wheel

Ford had a good go at trying to spice-up the interior of the Cougar in comparison to the Mondeo so there are plenty of sporty touches. It feels like quite a large car to drive but is not intimidating to manoeuvre.
