Ford Cougar (98-02) - Review Review by Parkers on 01 January 1998 Front-wheel-drive Cougar is built on the underpinnings of the excellent Mondeo which ensures it is good to drive and compared to many coupes, has a reasonably generous amount of space. It's great value on the used market, even if its looks aren't as impressive as they once were but we'd have to point out that the Mondeo V6 has the same chassis and engine, even more practicality and is even cheaper to buy. 3.5 out of 5 Other Ford reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Performance Two engines to choose from, a 2.0 litre four-cylinder or a 2.5 litre V6. The V6 is the obvious choice for those seeking the ultimate driver's car, it sounds good and goes well too. However the 2.0 makes a more sensible choice as it is cheaper to run but is less numerous than the V6. Both units were available with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. Stable at speed, although the ride is a bit harsh at lower speeds. It's not really a sportscar, but enjoyable to drive all the same.
