The Ford Fiesta is a small car with big ideas. As well as being stylish and good to drive, it borrows many innovations from larger Fords, such as keyless entry, Bluetooth hands-free phone compatibility and a system to prevent mis-fuelling. The Fiesta also has a few tricks of its own - it'll play MP3 files from a USB stick through the stereo, comes with a knee airbag as standard, plus has a dash inspired by a mobile phone. But that doesn't mean that it has betrayed its small car roots. It's better value than ever, cheaper to buy and costs less to run than the old car - there's even an ECOnetic model which costs nothing to tax. Overall it's one of the finest small cars you can buy.

A lot of thought has been given to make the Fiesta fully integrated with a number of technologies. Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connectivity is an option on new cars, while it’s possible to plug-in a USB memory stick with MP3 files and control them through the stereo and steering wheel controls – as you would with a normal CD. The trim line-up starts with the Studio which has body-coloured bumpers, reach and rake adjustable steering, electric mirrors, power steering, a CD stereo and central locking. The Style adds an upgraded sound system, electric front windows and remore central locking while the Style+ has air conditioning and the Quickclear heated windscreen. The Zetec is the most popular choice and gets 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, a chrome grille, bodywork detailing, a trip computer, interior ambient lighting and a leather steering wheel. The Zetec S goes one better with 16-inch alloys, a deeper front bumper, side mouldings, sports suspension and a rear spoiler while the more luxurious Titanium has electronic temperature control, privacy glass, cruise control, automatic lights, rain sensitive wipers, power folding mirrors and carpet mats. The low emissions ECOnetic model has lowered suspension and low rolling resistance tyres. Key option packs are the Full Dress Up Kit (large rear spoiler, side skirts, sport front and rear bumpers, sport grille), City Pack (electrically folding mirrors, reverse parking sensor), Street Pack (privacy glass, 17-inch alloy wheels, electronic stability programme), Tech Pack (keyless entry, Ford ‘power’ push button start and USB), and Titanium X pack (17-inch alloy wheels, electronic stability programme, leather trim). In October the Style models were replaced with the Edge which has air conditioning as standard. At the same time the Studio was upgraded with electric front windows while a new Titanium Individual model was introduced. This has a special red interior, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth with USB plus premium leather seats in red and silver.
