Ford Mondeo Estate (00-07) - Review Review by Simon Harris on 09 January 2007 Ford launched a class leader in 2000 with the second-generation Mondeo. Spacious and comfortable, the car was also enjoyable to drive. While the diesel engines were a big improvement over the ones in the old model, it wasn't until the introduction of the TDCi engines in November 2001 that they were truly competitive. First major change to the Mondeo came in the summer of 2003 with improved quality and a greater level of equipment available, while it underwent further revisions in 2005. The high-performance ST220 was joined by a quick diesel ST TDCi in 2004. The estate has one of the best luggage capacities in its class. Loses value quickly because of the volumes sold to fleets that arrive on the used market, but an accomplished performer. 4 out of 5 Other Ford reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Comfort All second-generation Mondeos come with four electric windows and air conditioning as standard. The interior is roomy (rear passengers have about as much space as in the old Ford Scorpio, which is a size above the Mondeo's sector of the market) and the seats are comfortable. Engine noise can be a problem on the early 2.0TD models, although the TDCi diesels are much better, while sportier models with larger wheels can transmit a fair degree of road noise through the cabin. From summer 2003 top models were available with heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. 4.5 out of 5 Practicality A minimum of 540 litres' boot space and a maximum of 1700 litres up to roof height with the rear seats folded makes the Mondeo one of the most accommodating estates on the market. The Mondeo also has generous door bins and a good sized glove compartment. Get a Ford Mondeo Estate valuation How does the boot space compare? The quality of the interior is generally good, although it was improved further in the summer of 2003, with the option of integrated Sony audio systems, whose gloss-black finish looked far classier than the standard Ford audio systems. The availability of 'Quickclear' heated windscreen on many models means frosty mornings needn't delay your start, either. Car Valuations Find used car prices with Parkers accurate car valuations.
