Ford Mondeo Hatchback (00-07) - Review Review by Ben Wall on 09 January 2007 Ford launched a class leader in 2000 with the second-generation Mondeo. Spacious and comfortable, the car was also enjoyable to drive. While the diesel engines were a big improvement over the ones in the old model, it wasn't until the introduction of the TDCi engines in November 2001 that they were truly competitive. The first major change to the Mondeo came in the summer of 2003 with improved quality and a greater level of equipment available, while it underwent further revisions in 2005. The high-performance ST220 was joined by a quick diesel ST TDCi in 2004. It lost value quickly because of the numbers sold to fleets that then came onto the used market, but that means that now it's great value. 4 out of 5 Other Ford reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Comfort All second-generation Mondeos come with four electric windows and air conditioning as standard. The interior is roomy (rear passengers have about as much space as in the old Ford Scorpio) and the seats are comfortable. Engine noise can be a problem on the early 2.0TD models, although the TDCi diesels are much better, while sportier models with larger wheels can transmit a fair degree of road noise through the cabin. From summer 2003 top models were available with heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The Mondeo also has generous door bins and a good sized glove compartment. Get a Ford Mondeo Hatchback valuation View full gallery How does the boot space compare? The quality of the interior is generally good, although it was improved further in the summer of 2003, with the option of integrated Sony audio systems, whose gloss-black finish looked far classier than the standard Ford audio systems. The availability of 'Quickclear' heated windscreen on many models means frosty mornings needn't delay your start, either.
