The Civic Type-R is one of the best hot hatches around, with an awesome engine and gearbox combination that gets better the harder and faster you drive it. It also offers a genuinely roomy body shape.

It is very well built but is the sort of car that inspires drivers to thrash it so check it over carefully. Prices are strong, but if you can get air con it's worth looking out for.
