Simple. Make it look like a Ferrari, give it a decent level of kit and sell it at a price people can afford. The facelift came February 2000, but was carried out by Hyundai's Korean studio. It didn't look right. The elegant look that had drawn buyers to the model was replaced by a bug-eyed Celica look. This model wasn't well received, suffered lower residual values and was replaced by an all-new model in early 2002. There were two special editions, inspired by Hyundai's Formula 2 rally success, both based on the 2.0 SE. F2 (April 1998), had front and rear spoilers, larger alloys, aluminium kick-plates and an uprated stereo. The F2 Evolution (July 1999) came in silver or blue and had five-spoke alloy wheels, uprated engine and suspension and a body-styling kit.
